Vicky Doner is a small movie, where John Abraham debuts as a producer.
The story revolves around Vicky(Ayushmann Khurrana) who is unemployed and is constantly being nagged by his loud and over-the-top mother(Dolly Ahluwalia). In the meanwhile, fertility expert Dr. Chaddha (played by Annu Kapoor), is looking for a perfect sperm donor and finds Vicky. He convinces Vicky to make a better use of his ‘wasted’ sperms. Eventually Vicky is the biological dad of 53 healthy children.
Vicky finds his love of life in Ashima Roy [Yami Gautam], a pretty Bengali girl, who works in a bank. But soon Vicky’s world collapses because of his past as a donor. The rest of the movie about how Vicky manages to get his life on track.
The director of the movie Shoojit Sircar successfully balances between comedy and the concept of the story. Its engaging in the first half for its comedy and in second half for the twist. The movie never enters into vulgarity considering the issue it focuses on, and that’s the reason it works. Special mention for the screenplay, by Juhi Chaturvedi, who penned down it to perfection.
Its a dream debut for Ayushmann Khurrana and he inches into perfection. Ayushmann plays the character of Vicky smoothly and you get a feeling that he is natural. Its a treat to watch him on screen. The lady love of Vicky played by television actress Yami Gautam is lovable on screen. She acts well, has strong screen presence and looks beautiful.
The supporting cast of Vicky Donor are worth mentioning also. Annu Kapoor, Dolly Ahluwalia, Kamlesh Gill are superb.
On the whole, Vicky Donor is really an entertaining watch and kudos to John Abrahamn for taking a subject like this. Just go for it this weekend and you wont be disappointed.
